ELSHOLTZ Mary Berg (Weber), June 11, 1940 – May 17, 2024, Mary died peacefully, surrounded by her family, due to complications of acute myeloid leukemia which was diagnosed in January. She is lovingly survived by her husband of 25 years, Bill Elsholtz, daughter Ellenne Weber, son Tim Weber (Emily), grand children Huck (Katherine), Henry, Jack, Otto and Willow. Mary is also survived by her siblings Jean, Joy, John, Trygve and Karen. Mary was born on the family farm in Clearbrook, MN the 3rd of 9 children. Mary excelled in school, from the one room classroom taught by her mother through her graduation from Clearbrook High School. In her senior year she won the Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow competi-tion there. She earned a math scholarship to Bemidji State. Following her freshman year Mary moved to Minneapolis and began working at Northwestern Mutual Life, where she was one of their first computer programmers, while continuing to take college courses. In 1964 she married Lloyd Weber of Rogers, MN. Their daughter Ellenne was born in 1966 followed by son Tim in 1968. After Lloyd’s graduation from dental school he began his commission with the US Navy. Mary and Ellenne would join him at Subic Bay Naval Base in the Philippines from 1966-1968. While there, Mary’s love of world travel and Asian cuisine was born. Mary returned to the University of Minnesota to finish her math degree and graduated with honors in 1975. Mary passed her CPA exam and began her career as a tax specialist. She was named a partner at Ernst & Whinney in 1984, participating in breaking the glass ceiling. She mentored many young women in her field. Mary spent the last 15 years of her career establishing and managing a private family office. During that time she volunteered as treasurer of the St. Paul Boys & Girls Club. Mary and Bill were married in 1999 and for the last 25 years they enjoyed golf, their homes and friends in Arizona and Wisconsin, and spending time with their kids and grandkids. Together they traveled to six continents – a safari in Tanzania was their absolute favorite. An extraordinary grandparent, she and Bill shared their love of travel with their grandchildren through family vacations to Scandinavia, Italy, France, Spain, Mexico and Alaska. Mary was funny and fun, an amazing cook, a thoughtful and generous mother, wife, sister, friend and our Granna. She had a profound impact on the lives of so many, and is already so deeply missed. She spent her last Mother’s Day weekend at the cabin she loved, with the people she loved, eating her favorite foods and beating us all at cards. There will be a private family service. Memorials preferred to Boys & Girls Club of the Twin Cities. |
