MILLER,
PENELOPE "PENNY" HANDSAKER Oct. 26, 1924 to Jan. 2, 2013 On January 2,
2013, Penny Miller died peacefully at the Elmcroft senior care home of
Pt. Loma. She was 88 years old. Penny was born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota. Soon after graduating from the University of Minnesota, she moved to San Francisco, where she met and married Robert R. Miller in 1955. Penny and Bob lived and traveled abroad extensively. Penny taught elementary school and then spent 40 years as a jewelry craftswoman. She produced jewelry in sterling silver or gold, and had several "featured artist" exhibits at galleries. Penny was predeceased by her husband Bob, and is survived by her brother, Bill Handsaker, of Minnetonka, MN, and many nieces and nephews. The family is grateful for the warm care Penny received in recent years from Elmcroft, White Sands, Somerford, and most of all, by Patty Frisby of San Diego. Penny died after fighting the ravages of Alzheimer's disease for ten years. She participated in the Alzheimer Research study at UCSD. Gifts may be sent to this research center: 8950 Villa La Jolla Dr., Ste C-129, La Jolla, CA 92037. A memorial service will be held March 1 at 2:30 p.m. at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery. |
